Tragedy Strikes Gidan Ado Community
Fifteen people were killed in a devastating midnight attack on the Gidan Ado community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday. The attack came just two days after security forces announced enhanced measures to safeguard the region during the festive season.

Sam Jugo, National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Community Development Association (IDA), confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday. “Troops from Operation Safe Haven responded swiftly, but the assailants had already caused irreparable harm,” he said.
Operation Safe Haven, a multi-agency task force responsible for maintaining peace in Plateau State, has been criticized for its delayed response. Community leaders have urged the government to intensify efforts to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Victims Include Women and Children
The attack claimed the lives of men, women, and children, including a toddler, Sheba Ernest, who was just one year old. Other victims were identified as Dauda Arabo (48), Hassana Wula (52), and Laraba Randi (18), among others. Linda Moses (32), who sustained severe injuries, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The list of victims underscores the indiscriminate nature of the violence, which has left families mourning and communities shattered. Local leaders have called for comprehensive support for the survivors and the bereaved.
Recurring Violence During Festive Seasons
Violence during festive seasons has become an unfortunate pattern in Plateau State. Last year, coordinated attacks in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas left over 70 people dead during the Christmas period. Residents fear that such incidents will continue unless decisive action is taken.
Monday Kasa, Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee for Bokkos Local Government Area, highlighted the persistent insecurity in the region. He urged the federal government to provide more resources and personnel to tackle the escalating violence.

Civil society groups and human rights organizations have demanded a thorough investigation and immediate measures to protect vulnerable communities. “This cycle of violence cannot continue unchecked,” said a spokesperson for a local advocacy group.
