NAFDAC Recalls Dove Soap with batch number 81832M 08

Dove Beauty Soap Recalled in Nigeria Due to Chemical Concerns

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the recall of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g) from Nigeria due to the presence of a harmful chemical. This decision comes after the discovery of Butylphenyl Methylpropional, also known as Lilial, in the soap, a chemical known to pose reproductive risks.

Harmful Ingredient Banned in the EU

NAFDAC announced that the European Union banned Lilial, the chemical found in the soap, due to its risks to unborn children and potential to cause skin allergies. Other countries have also recalled Dove products containing Lilial, such as body lotions and antiperspirants. The presence of Lilial makes the product non-compliant with international safety regulations.

Public Alert Issued by NAFDAC

The agency has urged the public to stop using the recalled products and submit any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. Importation of the product is also prohibited, and the soap is not registered in NAFDAC’s database. NAFDAC warned importers, distributors, and retailers to be vigilant and avoid distributing the recalled soap.

NAFDAC Encourages Reporting of Adverse Effects

NAFDAC has encouraged consumers and health professionals to report any adverse effects caused by the use of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap. The public can report incidents through NAFDAC’s online platforms or mobile applications for immediate investigation and action.

Wider Impact of Dove Product Recalls

NAFDAC has previously recalled other Dove products for containing Lilial. Other products like antiperspirants and lotions have faced similar restrictions in several countries due to the presence of the harmful chemical. NAFDAC advises consumers in Nigeria to be cautious and avoid using products not listed in its database.
