National Protests: Governor Sanwo-Olu Calls for Dialogue

Open Dialogue Encouraged Ahead of Protests

In response to the anticipated national protests, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emphasized the necessity of restraint and constructive dialogue. His administration has expressed a readiness to peacefully engage with the citizens to discuss and address their concerns. Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, recently outlined this approach in a statement.

Constitutional Rights Versus Public Safety

Governor Sanwo-Olu affirmed the citizens’ constitutional rights to voice their concerns about the current socio-economic issues in Nigeria. He cautioned, however, about the potential for these protests to escalate into unrest, urging protestors to avoid any actions that could threaten public safety. He noted that certain elements might exploit these gatherings for their agendas, thereby disrupting peace and order.

Advocating for Peaceful Expression of Concerns

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the importance of peaceful protests, advising participants to prevent these platforms from being hijacked by political agendas. He emphasized avoiding divisive rhetoric and actions that could undermine the collective goal of addressing the nation’s challenges.

Commitment to Economic Revitalization and Openness

The Lagos State Governor emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s economic landscape and actively engaging with its citizens. He expressed, “Our commitment to dialogue shows our sincere intention to tackle and resolve issues promptly.” He assured that this approach involves hearing and considering all voices in decision-making.
