Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Reject Impeachment of Akpabio

Ex-Agitators Rally Behind Akpabio

A group of former Niger Delta agitators strongly opposes calls for Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s impeachment. The ‘Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum’ views these efforts as part of a larger scheme against Southern politicians. At a Port Harcourt press conference, forum chairman Alban Paulinus vowed to resist any attempts to undermine Akpabio’s leadership.

Condemning Injustice Against the South

Alban Paulinus expressed strong disapproval of what he called the unjust targeting of Southern leaders. He warned that the forum would not tolerate any efforts to destabilize Akpabio’s position as Senate President. Paulinus emphasized that this is a clear case of injustice against the South and called on all Southerners to stand united against such actions.

Call for a South-South Development Commission

In addition to defending Akpabio, the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum advocated for the creation of a South-South Development Commission.Paulinus asserted that a separate commission from the NDDC is vital for achieving equitable regional development. The forum urged Senator Akpabio and South-South lawmakers to expedite passing a bill to establish the new commission. This action is seen as crucial for promoting fairness in regional development.

Criticism of Northern Groups

The forum discussed recent protests against President Bola Tinubu, expressing concern about increasing calls for his removal, particularly from Northern groups. Paulinus highlighted the unequal treatment between Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari, who completed two terms despite challenges. This disparity raises concerns about fairness in leadership. He warned that these actions threaten national unity and could lead to increased regional tensions.

Protecting Southern Leadership

The Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum condemned the pattern of undermining Southern leadership, describing it as a destabilizing force within Nigeria. Paulinus cautioned that continued provocations against Southern leaders might compel the forum to take decisive action to protect the region’s interests. He called for an immediate end to this trend and urged all Nigerians to respect the nation’s leadership regardless of regional origins.
