Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed that the government approved a private airstrip at Canaanland. This airstrip will serve as the headquarters for the Living Faith Church, situated in Ota, Ogun State. This significant development allows for improved transportation access to the church, which is known for hosting large congregations.
During a recent Tehillah Night Special Edition at Covenant University Chapel, David Oyedepo, the church’s founder, expressed joy over the approval. He celebrated the government’s decision in a video shared with the congregation, highlighting its benefits for travel. The new airstrip will enable direct travel from the church premises, removing the need to visit a nearby airport.
This announcement came as part of a special thanksgiving programme in honour of Oyedepo, who recently marked his 70th birthday. The airstrip’s approval is expected to significantly enhance travel logistics for both church members and visitors, especially during major church events that attract thousands of worshippers from around the world.
Keyamo’s media aide, Tunde Moshood, confirmed the approval, stating, “Yes, the minister approved the airstrip. It is a private airstrip, and I can confirm that.” This development aims to support the church’s growth and its outreach activities, further solidifying its place in Nigeria’s religious landscape.
Oyedepo highlighted that the new airstrip will not only benefit him but also provide a landing space for members with their aircraft. He said, “I won’t need to fly a helicopter to the airport. I can leave from here to wherever I am going.”
He encouraged young people to discover their purpose and potential by using Covenant University graduates who now work as pilots. Oyedepo stated, “This university focuses on helping you locate God’s plan and pursue it accordingly.” He urged the youth not to waste their lives, emphasizing the importance of following their dreams.
