Nigerian Three-in-One ID Card to be Rolled out in August

Launch of Multi-Purpose ID Card

The Nigerian three-in-one ID card will be rolled out in two months, confirmed the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). This card will combine identity, financial, and social services into a single multipurpose card, available to citizens across the country by August 2024.

Implementation Progress

A high-ranking member of the implementation team revealed during an exclusive interview that the commission has been working tirelessly to meet its goals. The team is keeping the plan on track and will launch it in the upcoming months. The official mentioned that the testing and deployment stage has already begun.

Overcoming Deployment Challenges

The official mentioned that although the initial target was set for July, minor delays have shifted the expected rollout to between July and August. They highlighted the extensive work involved in deploying new technology, including configuring the card, enabling the outlet, and ensuring the wallet functions correctly. The team is currently deploying the portal required for accessing the service and integrating it with banks.

Collaborative Efforts

On April 5, 2024, NIMC announced the launch of a new card with payment capabilities and social service features, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System. This initiative aims to provide increased options for domestic consumers and foster innovative, cost-effective, and competitive service delivery.

Features of the Identity Card

The new identity cards will include a bank-enabled National ID card, a social intervention card, and an optional ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card. These features will streamline identity verification and enhance access to financial and social services for all Nigerians.
