Nationwide Blackout Following Grid Failure
Nigeria’s national electricity grid experienced its second collapse within 24 hours on Tuesday morning, leading to a complete nationwide blackout. According to reports, the grid failure occurred at 9:17 a.m., disrupting power across the country. This incident followed a similar collapse the previous evening, which had already left many regions in darkness.
Electricity Supply Plummets Across the Country
On Monday, power generation dropped drastically from 3.87 gigawatts to zero between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Various power distribution companies, including the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), confirmed the sudden decline in supply. States in the southeastern region, such as Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo, were particularly affected by the grid collapse, resulting in widespread power outages.
Efforts to Restore Power Underway
By 10 a.m. on Tuesday, electricity supply had completely ceased in all regions. The Eko Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the grid collapse and reassured customers that efforts were being made to restore power. Despite these assurances, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has yet to respond to inquiries, leaving many questions unanswered regarding the cause of the repeated collapses.
