Oba Lekan Balogun passes away at 81, Alli Okunmade II, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, having ascended to his ancestral throne in March 2022. He was the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan land. The late Olubadan was born on October 18, 1942. Governor Makinde confirmed the monarch’s passing at University College Hospital, Ibadan, and hailed him as a monumental figure.
He wrote:
“With total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing unto glory of our father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan land. A mighty Iroko has fallen; Oba Balogun has joined the ancestors.”
The governor expressed condolences, highlighting the late monarch’s significant achievements and indelible mark on history in a brief tenure.
The Governor sympathises with Oba Balogun’s family, the Olubadan-in-Council, and Ibadan’s citizens, hoping for tranquility for the late king’s soul.
Moreover, as Oba Lekan Balogun passes, it signifies the end of a distinguished era in Ibadan land, leaving a significant gap in its cultural heritage.
Additionally, on Monday, the late monarch thanked God for the chance to complete two years on the throne, appreciating his council’s support. Through his assistant, Oladele Ogunsola, Balogun highlighted that his second anniversary, coinciding with Ramadan, prompted him to call for national prayers and advocate for mutual kindness, fostering peace during the observance.
