Obidient Movement Coordinator Confident of Obi’s Future Political Victory
Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, expressed confidence in Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential potential. He made this statement at the “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact” symposium in Onitsha. The event took place at the All Saints Cathedral Auditorium in Anambra State on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Tanko highlighted Obi’s leadership capabilities and the movement’s future prospects.
Electoral Malpractice and the Path to 2027
Tanko emphasized that the 2023 presidential election was marred by electoral malpractice, which he believes robbed Obi of his rightful victory. He pointed out that despite the challenges, the movement remains hopeful for a better future for Nigeria. “A new Nigeria is possible,” he said, stressing the importance of electing the right leaders to ensure a prosperous nation. He further noted that the Obidient Movement’s mission is to end bad governance, urging Nigerians to elect leaders who will prioritize the people’s interests.
Focus on Electoral Reform and Youth Empowerment
In his address, Tanko reiterated the movement’s commitment to advocating for electoral reform. He stressed that the North, like other regions, is dissatisfied with the current government, and the Obidient Movement plans to engage in legal and physical advocacy for the reform. This includes mobilising people through street protests, legal action, and presenting proposals to the National Assembly. Tanko highlighted the movement’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youth and driving social change.
Unity and Vision for a Better Nigeria
Tanko urged the South East to continue supporting the movement and advocate for free and fair elections. He called for an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman who would remain free from presidential influence. Tanko emphasized the importance of ensuring fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
Encouraging Words from Stakeholders
The symposium also saw key figures offering their insights on the path forward. Professor Stella Okunna, the event chair, underscored the importance of good governance and praised the Obidient Movement for revitalizing its efforts. Meanwhile, Valentine Ozigbo, the Labour Party’s 2025 governorship aspirant for Anambra, emphasized the need for unity among the movement’s supporters. He shared his vision for a prosperous Anambra, detailing policies aimed at ensuring a brighter future for the state.
A Call for Collective Action
Economist Professor Pat Utomi, speaking virtually, called for unity and proactive collaboration among the movement’s members. He urged them to take collective action towards achieving their goals of good governance and a better future for Nigeria. With a renewed focus and commitment, the Obidient Movement aims to strengthen its influence and work towards realising its vision for a “New Nigeria.”
