Government Orders Immediate Closure
The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge linking Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3, citing concerns over its structural integrity. This decision, announced on Friday, is part of efforts to safeguard public safety and prevent potential hazards.
Structural Integrity Assessment Underway
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed the closure in a statement. He explained that the move was necessary to enable a thorough structural integrity assessment of the bridge. The assessment will determine whether the bridge requires repairs or a complete reconstruction.
Protective Measures Implemented
The government directed the contractor to install concrete barriers at all bridge entry points to prevent unauthorized access. “These barriers are a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other road users,” Osiyemi said.
Alternative Routes Advised for Pedestrians
Authorities have advised pedestrians to use an alternative crossing 30 meters away during the bridge’s closure to ensure safety. This measure aims to minimize disruptions and protect the public.
Government’s Commitment to Safety
Osiyemi reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining safe infrastructure across the state. He emphasized that the ongoing inspection and maintenance of public facilities remain a top priority to avoid potential accidents.
Public Cooperation Requested
The Lagos State Government has urged residents to cooperate with officials and adhere to safety instructions. The government assured citizens that it would communicate updates on the bridge’s status once the assessment is completed.
