Urgent Call for Investigation
In Osogbo, Osun State, youths from the Take It Back Movement rallied this Saturday at Olaiya Junction, as they demand for justice and an investigation into the deaths during the recent #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. Security measures had shifted their planned gathering from Freedom Park, prompting them to adapt swiftly.
Protests Amidst Normalcy
The demonstration unfolded smoothly along Fagbewesa Street in Osogbo, circling back to the start without hindering traffic or business. Protestors, bearing a banner stating ‘End Bad Governance in Nigeria’, clearly voiced their grievances and demands. Their march was orderly, emphasizing the urgent need for governmental accountability and reform.
Spokesperson Outlines Key Demands
Lijofi, the group’s spokesperson, articulated the protestors’ demands, emphasizing the necessity for the government to revisit and address the initial causes of the August 1-10 protests. He stressed the importance of investigating extrajudicial killings and called for the immediate release of detained protestors.
Government Response Criticized
The protestors openly criticized the government’s strategy, particularly highlighting the misuse of resources to suppress peaceful protests instead of addressing poverty and hunger. They accused the authorities of employing intimidation tactics to silence dissent.
Victor Lijofi, speaking on behalf of the movement, issued a stern warning: should their demands go unaddressed, they are fully prepared to reinitiate protests in October. This underscores the group’s determination to push for substantial changes in governance and social policies.
