Lagos, Nigeria – Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, took to social media to express his joy over the historic unification of the Nnewi Community in Lagos. The event marked the end of over three decades of disunity among community members. Peter Obi celebrates the unification of the Nnewi Community in Lagos, calling it a step towards a united and progressive Nigeria.
Breaking the Chains of Disunity
For the first time since 1982, the Nnewi Community in Lagos gathered to break the jinx of disunity that had plagued them for years. Significantly, Obi, who attended the landmark event, emphasised the importance of peace for any meaningful development.”One cannot expect any meaningful development in any community, state, or nation without first establishing peace which flows from justice and security,” he said.
A Vision for a New Nigeria
In light of the event, Peter Obi seized the occasion to draw parallels with the broader Nigerian context. Consequently, he passionately called for the dismantling of the walls of tribalism, religion, and political association that have long separated Nigerians. “In our nation Nigeria, we must strive to break the walls… and unite under one indivisible nation, working together for the peace, progress, and development of every Nigerian,” Obi stated.
The POssible Dream
Ending his message on an optimistic note, Obi used the term “POssible” to signify his vision for a new Nigeria. Consequently, he rejoiced with the Nnewi Community for uniting to achieve progress for their people and expressed hope that the rest of Nigeria would follow suit.
