Peter Obi Condemns Rising Insecurity and Recent Attacks

Concerns Over Insecurity in Nigeria

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has voiced deep concern over Nigeria’s growing insecurity, describing it as “heartbreaking.” In a statement released on Thursday, Obi lamented the surge in attacks on communities and businesses, which he said has left many Nigerians living in fear.

Benue Killings and Anambra Kidnappings

Obi specifically condemned the killing of 30 individuals in separate terrorist attacks in Benue State and the kidnapping of three staff members during an assault on the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing motorcycle showroom in Nnewi, Anambra State. “The current state of insecurity is both saddening and alarming,” he stated, expressing shock over these incidents.

Economic and Security Concerns

Highlighting the double burden of insecurity and economic hardship, Obi noted that attacks on businesses and critical infrastructure are discouraging investment. “This is a time when foreign investors are leaving, and local businesses are struggling against insecurity to survive,” he remarked.

Urgent Call for Action

Obi called for immediate measures to address the insecurity, stating, “We must not allow the senseless loss of lives and attacks on businesses to continue. Insecurity must end before it consumes us all.” He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue kidnapped workers and bring perpetrators to justice.

Condolences and Support

The former governor extended condolences to the families of the victims in Benue and expressed sympathy to Innoson Chukwuma for the attack on his business. Obi emphasised the need for collective efforts to ensure safety and stability across the nation.

A Plea for Unity

Obi emphasised that addressing insecurity goes beyond safety and involves restoring hope and unity in Nigeria.
