Press Statement on Alleged Safety Violations by Air Peace

Air Peace, a leading Nigerian airline, has addressed recent media reports alleging safety breaches in the United Kingdom. These reports, filled with inaccuracies, have aimed to create unnecessary fears and doubts among the flying public.

From the commencement of Air Peace’s inaugural flight to London, the airline’s operations have been under intense scrutiny by relevant authorities. Air Peace welcomes this scrutiny as it underscores their commitment to operational excellence and the safety and security of their esteemed passengers.

In response to the allegations, Air Peace has confirmed that the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) wrote to them after a statutory Ramp Inspection on April 7, 2024. The CAA requested clarification on the use of the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and other concerns. Air Peace promptly provided the necessary information, and the matter was resolved without any issues.

Approval and Equipment Standards

Contrary to the claims, Air Peace’s EFB has received full approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). All Boeing 777 aircraft operated by Air Peace are certified to use EFBs. Additionally, the allegation that Air Peace’s B777 aircraft lack iPad mounts and charging ports in the flight deck is unfounded. All B777 aircraft are equipped with these essential tools, ensuring that the crew can operate efficiently and safely.

Cockpit Library and Runway Exit Concerns

Another issue raised by the UK CAA was the location of the cockpit library on the B777. The B777 designates two locations for storing manuals and books: one behind the captain and one under the jumpseat. During the inspection, the books were stored under the jumpseat, a common practice. However, the inspector expressed a preference for the books to be placed behind the captain, a preference Air Peace has accommodated for future operations.

Concerns were also raised about the captain’s choice of runway exit after landing. Instead of exiting at the middle runway exit, the captain opted to exit at the end of the runway based on his professional discretion. This choice may have delayed the arrival of another aircraft. Air Peace has addressed this matter with the captain to ensure adherence to preferred exit procedures in the future.

Media Sensationalism and Commitment to Safety

Air Peace expressed shock at the exaggerated and sensationalised media reports about the inspection, which was resolved over a month ago. The airline criticised the unprofessionalism of such reports, which aim to create public panic and tarnish Air Peace’s reputation for safety.

Air Peace’s safety record is impeccable. The airline goes above and beyond to comply with all established safety standards. Safety remains the bedrock of Air Peace’s operations, supported by robust operational mechanisms to guarantee full compliance.

By addressing these issues transparently, Air Peace reinforces its commitment to safety and operational excellence, ensuring the trust and confidence of its passengers and the public.
