Public Funds for Public Interest, Says Peter Obi

Advocating Fiscal Responsibility

At a recent engagement at the Grimard School of Nursing and Midwifery in Ayingba, Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the February 2023 elections, emphasized the use of public funds for public interest by politicians. Obi urged his fellow politicians to prioritize public welfare with the resources entrusted to them, highlighting the obligation to elevate the standard of living for citizens.

A Commitment to Education and Healthcare

During his address, Obi stressed that politicians must use the funds they manage solely for public improvement and not for personal gain. “The money is not ours; it is for the people. We must use it to enhance their lives,” he declared. Reflecting his dedication, Obi donated £10 million to the school and announced plans to install a new borehole to provide clean water to both the school and the surrounding community.

Praise from the Clergy

Bishop Anthony Adaji of the Idah Diocese, who attended the event, praised Obi’s longstanding commitment to education. Furthermore, he recalled Obi’s tenure as the Governor of Anambra State, highlighting the significant improvements in student performance that resulted from substantial investments in education. “His investment in education was legendary and had a profound impact on the state’s schools,” Bishop Adaji remarked.

Further Community Engagements

In addition to his visit to Ayingba, Obi also traveled to Ankpa and Olamaboro local government areas, where he inaugurated two boreholes that will serve the local communities. These initiatives underscore his focus on providing essential infrastructure to improve the quality of life for residents.
