Putin Warns Western Nations Over Long-Range Missiles to Ukraine

Putin Warns Against Western Missile Supplies

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a stern warning to Western nations about providing Ukraine with long-range missiles that could reach Russian territory. Speaking in St. Petersburg, Putin stated that such actions would be viewed as the “direct participation” of NATO countries in the war against Russia.

Escalation of the Conflict

“This would substantially change the very essence, the nature of the conflict,” Putin declared. He emphasized that Moscow would consider this a significant escalation, potentially altering Russia’s response to the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

Accusations of NATO Involvement

Putin claimed that Ukraine would require data from Western satellites to operate these missiles and suggested that only NATO servicemen could input the necessary flight missions. “This will mean that NATO countries, the USA, and European states are fighting with Russia,” he asserted.

History of Red Lines Crossed

Despite previous warnings from Moscow, Western nations have continued to supply Ukraine with advanced weaponry, including tanks, missile systems, and F-16 fighter jets. Putin’s latest remarks indicate a new threshold that, if crossed, could lead to unforeseen consequences.

Potential Russian Response Unclear

While outlining his concerns, Putin did not specify how Russia would respond if Ukraine were to strike Russian territory using Western missiles. “We will take corresponding decisions based on the threats to us that will be created,” he said, leaving his potential actions open-ended.

Western Leaders Face Strategic Choices

The warning comes as Western leaders contemplate lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of advanced missile systems. They must now balance the risk of escalating the conflict with the need to support Ukraine’s defense efforts. As UK opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer stated during his visit to Washington, “Russia started this conflict. Russia illegally invaded Ukraine. Russia can end this conflict straight away.”
