Ritual in Enugu: Father and Native Doctor Unintentionally Kills Son

Police Confirm Arrests in Ritual Death Case

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a native doctor and the father of Chikwado Celestine Eze, who tragically died during a failed fortification ritual. Chikwado, a 26-year-old man, had returned to his village in Ugbaike, Enugu Ezike, to share the news of his visa approval for travel abroad. However, his father, Uwakwe Eze, insisted on a ritual to ensure his success overseas.

Deadly Ritual Gone Wrong

Chikwado’s father took him to a local native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, for a fortification ritual. The native doctor instructed Chikwado to be buried alive for 90 minutes during the ritual meant to “strengthen” him. After being exhumed, Chikwado was unresponsive. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

Police Statement on the Incident

In a statement, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests of the 48-year-old native doctor and 67-year-old father. Both were charged with conspiracy and murder following the tragic death of Chikwado. The statement revealed that Uwakwe had taken his son to the shrine for a ritual involving burial in a coffin, which ultimately resulted in his demise.

Native Doctor’s Confession

The native doctor, Odugu, reportedly confessed to performing the ritual and acknowledged conducting similar practices in the past. He blamed Chikwado’s death on the victim’s alleged failure to adhere to certain ritual rules. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, with further legal action expected soon.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Investigators are actively working on the case, and both suspects will face trial once the investigation concludes. The police assure the public that they will take all necessary legal steps to ensure justice. Authorities have transported Chikwado’s body to the mortuary, where an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
