Sanwo-Olu Urges Hope Amidst Nigeria’s Economic Challenges

As Nigeria prepares to mark its 64th Independence Day, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful. Speaking during a special Jumaat service held at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, Sanwo-Olu reassured citizens that a sustainable plan is in place to stabilise the nation’s economy and enhance the well-being of its people.

A Call for Patience and Resilience

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the difficulties Nigerians are facing but stressed the importance of patience. He noted that while the current situation is challenging, efforts are being made to overcome these economic hurdles. “We cannot afford to be hopeless; there is a plan in place to secure economic stability,” he said.

Economic Stability Through Infrastructure Development

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to build infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, as part of a broader economic strategy. He emphasised the need to sustain reserves and continue development, assuring citizens that these efforts will lead to long-term economic stability. “We are a nation that is building. There is a plan, and it will bring positive change,” he stated.

Public Discourse and National Unity

The governor also urged Nigerians to engage in constructive public discourse, focusing on facts rather than negativity. He warned that destructive commentary could impede nation-building efforts and called for unity. “We must remember that our words have an impact on national development, and we should use them wisely,” Sanwo-Olu added.

Restoring Communal Values and Family Structure

Sanwo-Olu expressed concern over the loss of communal living and family values in modern Nigerian society. He appealed to parents to prioritise parenting and called on religious leaders to support the government’s efforts by promoting the importance of strong family units in their sermons.
