Sixteen Nigerian Soldiers Killed in Delta State Community Clashes

The Attack

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, a distressing event unfolded in Delta State’s Bomadi Local Government Area which led to sixteen Nigerian soldiers killed. Youths from the Okuoma community ambushed soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion. The soldiers were there on a peace mission, responding to a crisis between the Okuoma and Okoloba communities.

Casualties and Response

The ambush resulted in sixteen Nigerian soldiers killed, including the unit’s Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers. Following this tragic incident, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, ordered an immediate probe into the attack. He also called for the swift arrest of those behind this grave crime. The military has reported the incident to the Delta State Government.
