NANS Rejects Protest Claims
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) disowned Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, who falsely claimed to be NANS Clerk. Odunayo allegedly threatened a nationwide protest over Eric Sekou Chelle’s appointment as Super Eagles’ Head Coach. NANS clarified that Odunayo’s claims were fraudulent and did not represent their position.
Statement from NANS Leadership
Babatunde Akinteye, NANS Senate President, denounced Odunayo’s fraudulent remarks, asserting they don’t represent NANS or Nigerian students. Akinteye urged the NFF and public to disregard the protest threat. He emphasized that Odunayo’s claims were baseless and misleading.
Clarification on NANS’ Official Position
Akinteye was adamant that Odunayo holds no position within the NANS organization. He further stated that the threat was a desperate attempt by an impostor to tarnish the reputation of the association. The NANS leader urged security agencies to investigate these individuals for their actions, which he described as an affront to the integrity of the student body.
Support for NFF’s Decision on Chelle
On the matter of Eric Chelle’s appointment, Akinteye expressed respect for the NFF’s prerogative to make decisions concerning the Super Eagles. While acknowledging the NFF’s role in shaping the future of Nigerian football, Akinteye called for a focus on uncovering and developing homegrown football talent from Nigerian campuses.
Reaffirming NANS’ Stance on Football Matters
The NANS president reiterated that no official body of the association has endorsed or organized any protest against Chelle’s appointment. Akinteye also urged the NFF to remain steadfast in its decisions and to ignore the fabricated claims of protest made by the self-appointed individuals.
Investigating Impersonation Claims
Finally, Akinteye called on the authorities to swiftly investigate the individuals involved in the impersonation and the fraudulent attempt to cause unrest. He stressed that their actions were motivated by ulterior motives and had no legitimate connection to the NANS organization.
