TCN Announces Temporary Blackouts

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will conduct maintenance at two Abuja substations, causing temporary power outages this weekend. TCN announced that its engineers would handle the planned work to improve power equipment efficiency and reliability. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, emphasized the importance of the maintenance to enhance optimal system performance.

Saturday: Gwagwalada Substation Maintenance

On Saturday, December 28, 2024, engineers will perform maintenance on a 60MVA power transformer at Gwagwalada Substation. Maintenance will occur from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., causing a four-hour electricity outage in Gwagwalada. The power outage will affect Gwagwalada and surrounding areas from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sunday: Kukwaba Substation Work

On Sunday, December 29, 2024, maintenance will begin at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation for transformer repairs. One of the 60MVA power transformers will undergo repairs, causing power outages from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Affected areas include Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.

Addressing Concerns Over Maintenance Timing

TCN acknowledged the inconvenience caused by planned outages, especially during the holiday season. It emphasized the necessity of maintenance. The company assured residents that these activities are vital for improving system reliability. Maintenance aims to prevent unplanned disruptions and ensure consistent power supply.

Recent Postponements Resurface

Earlier this month, TCN postponed a maintenance operation at Gwagwalada Substation due to complaints about power supply issues. The company has resumed its planned upgrades to improve infrastructure. These upgrades aim to ensure long-term functionality of TCN’s power system.
