In a tragic development, terrorists again attack Birnin Gwari, Kaduna state, targeting Kakangi and Unguwan Matinja communities, causing widespread devastation. Reports indicate casualties, with eight vigilante members and two others killed, and village heads abducted from Kakangi and Kisaya.
Residents are reeling from the shock of the attacks, which have left the affected communities in mourning.The assailants’ ruthless actions have once again plunged the region into turmoil and fear.
Authorities are under pressure to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further bloodshed in the area. The tragic loss of lives underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities. Efforts must be intensified to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the troubled region.
Idris Khalid, a resident of the affected area, recounted the harrowing ordeal, stating that armed assailants stormed the villages early on Thursday. Among the victims in Kakangi were Bala Kamba, Abdurrahman Musa (Ubale), Kabiru Dan Dugui, Hambali Abu, Aliyu Abu, Nura Jika (Maleka), Mubarak Musa (Dan Wamba), and Ikra Hantsi. In Ungwan Matinja, Christopher Abubakar and Isah Gambo tragically lost their lives.
Khalid explained that the vigilantes were ambushed while attempting to track down kidnapped victims en route to a burial between Kakangi and Sabon Layi. Despite putting up a fierce resistance and eliminating several terrorists, they were unable to rescue the abducted village heads and others. Khalid expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the gallant vigilante members who had dedicated themselves to ensuring the safety of the community.
