WAEC Nigeria Releases Results of First-Ever Computer-Based Exam for Private Candidates 2024

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria has officially unveiled the results of its pioneering Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, marking a significant milestone in the transition from traditional paper-based assessments to digital formats.

The council highlighted the innovative nature of the CB-WASSCE, which employed a hybrid method.

This approach projected exam questions onto computer screens, allowing candidates to answer multiple-choice questions directly on the computer. Candidates also addressed essay and practical questions in designated booklets during the examination process.

This inaugural digital examination spanned 140 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers nationwide from January 31 to February 17, 2024. Moreover, 8,139 candidates actively participated, showcasing a move towards advanced assessment techniques.

The successful execution of the CB-WASSCE by WAEC underscores its dedication to modernizing education and paving the way for future assessments. This transition signifies the pivotal role of technology in moving away from traditional paper-based exams to more advanced digital assessments.

42.07% of candidates achieved credit and above in at least five subjects, regardless of English or Math. This data showcases a commendable level of academic achievement among the candidates in various subjects.

30.95% of candidates achieved credit or higher in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics, showcasing notable academic success. This achievement demonstrates the commendable academic performance of private candidates in the historic CB-WASSCE examination.

Furthermore, WAEC emphasized its commitment to inclusivity by accommodating 21 candidates with Special Needs during the examination process. This dedication to accessibility and fairness underscores WAEC’s mission to ensure that all candidates, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to demonstrate their academic abilities on an equal footing.
