Woman Allegedly Shot Dead by NSCDC Personnel Sparks Outrage and Unrest

A tragic incident unfolded in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, on Wednesday, as personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (N.S.C.D.C) allegedly shot dead a woman while in pursuit of hoodlums. The event, occurring amidst Eid prayers, stirred outrage and unrest among residents, escalating tensions in the area.

Eyewitnesses recounted that N.S.C.D.C personnel, in their chase of suspected criminals armed with dangerous weapons, resorted to indiscriminate firing, resulting in the fatal shooting of an innocent woman.

Amidst the chaos, an angry mob gathered and set fire to an N.S.C.D.C vehicle in a display of outrage.

ASP Yazid Abubakar, the police spokesperson, confirmed that two N.S.C.D.C personnel linked to the shooting are in custody.

Abubakar disclosed that an investigation into the cause of the tragic incident has been initiated by the authorities.

The situation remains tense as residents demand justice and answers regarding the fatal shooting.

Law enforcement efforts aim to restore peace and conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In contrast, N.S.C.D.C spokesperson in Zamfara State, Ikor Oche, refuted the allegations, asserting that N.S.C.D.C personnel were merely observing the movement of Muslim faithful during Eid prayers when they heard gunshots. Oche explained that upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a woman severely injured. He refuted claims of their involvement in the shooting and stressed that the mob vandalized their vehicle, causing injuries.

Subsequently, law enforcement officers dispersed the mob that vandalized and torched the N.S.C.D.C vehicle, restoring calm to the area. The Zamfara State N.S.C.D.C has initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
